Yesterday, when I arrived home after a brutal weekend, both on the work and family front, I opened my email and there it was.. My first "I Love Screwball" letter! Yes, I've had reviewers, editors, first readers, family members, friends, and other authors read the book and tell me they liked it, but this was the first stranger letter from the exact demographic that I attended to reach when I wrote SCREWBALL. What an amazing feeling to read this wonderful email.
How do you feel when you receive a nice note about your book, magazine article, or story? Do you remember your first fan letter? What did you do with it? Anyone have any happy news they'd like to share?
After watching someone I love very much dodge a major health bullet this weekend, today is a great day to share happy thoughts and be thankful. :)

It really is the best feeling ever! Any time ANYONE (friend, relative, writer, editor, transient) tells me they enjoyed what I wrote, I'm elated, validated. As you know...I even appreciate people critiquing work, though. The fact that somebody would take the time to read something I wrote AND offer feedback of any kind is just really cool. I don't love hearing I could have done better...but if it's from the heart, bring it on, baby! :)
I've learned so much by the way you handle yourself and your writing, Alexa. :) Someone told me before I started all this, to not get too high or too low. Try to stay in the middle. But, I agree with you. As long as it's being read, I'm happy. And if someone wants to tell me what they think, I'm all ears - good or bad. :)
Congrats-- and many more to come!
It really is the best feeling ever, isn't it?
Yes, it is.. Very sweet! Thanks. :)
It's such a great feeling--savor each note! I recently got one where a reader had plotted out a future book for Violet, which I just ADORED.
I plan on keeping each one. They plotted out the second book for you.. That's awesome! How close? :)
Aw, that's so cool! What a great feeling. :)
Thanks, Jessica. Can't wait to hear all about your launch. :)
Congrats, congrats, congrats! Good fan letters rock! I still have my first fan letter. It's in the box with my first love note from Husband, first birthday card from Teenager (he was two), first Mother's day card from Younger (also two)....it's a big deal.
WTG, YOU!
Thanks, Amy. Yes, I'm definitely printing it out and saving it. :)
That is so awesome! I haven't had that yet since the book is not out yet, but I still remember the first person who told me they were excited about it (outside of friends, family, fellow authors, etc). These are the moments that keep us going!
Thanks, Stephanie. Can't wait to hear about your all your letters! :)
Yay!!!
It really is such a great feeling! I saw an online review of my book today that said exactly what I was hoping readers would take away from my story...so encouraging!
Congratulations!
Congrats, Trish! :)
How cool! I got my first fan letter a couple of weeks ago and was blown away! It is the best of all the milestones, I think. And teenagers are so cool and notice things that adult readers just glaze over. Theyr really impress me.
