December Book Review Club

Happy December! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. I absolutely love this time of year. :)

The first Wednesday of the month means another edition of The Book Review Club hosted by Barrie Summy, author of the I So Don't Do Mysteries series. To celebrate the beginning of the winter sports season, I'm featuring P.V. Beck's basketball book, SWEET TURNAROUND J.

Check out the review below which was also featured on Pretty Tough last month.

Sweet Turnaround J

Looking for an enjoyable basketball book to read this winter season? Check out P.V. Beck’s Sweet Turnaround J published by Bedazzled Ink.

Told over the course of a basketball season, Sweet Turnaround J follows sixteen- year-old spunky All State basketball player Janey Holmes through the most tumultuous season of her life. After her school suddenly closes, Janey must join a new team at a new school that hasn’t won a basketball game in over three years, leaving Janey to wonder, is her basketball career over?

As the Riverside Ravens transform from the worst to the best team in the league, Janey’s tumultuous temper, toughness, and first love are tested and begin to threaten the basketball team. Will the Ravens win the championship for the first time in school history? But, before this can happen, Janey has to overcome all the obstacles tossed her way. A fun book for the basketball player and fan.

Check out the rest of the fabulous Book Club reviews here.

Happy Wednesday! :)

Disclosure: P.V. Beck’s book arrived on my doorstep courtesy of the author's publisher. I often receive ARCs and/or books for reviews (most of the time due to my Chick Lit column for South Jersey Mom magazine and sometimes because I’m an author and other times because I beg). However, I do not blog about every book I receive, only the ones I absolutely adore or feel the need to recommend to fans of sporty lit.

I love that there are good books for the sports-minded girl--so different from my teen years. Thanks for letting me know about this one!

I'm not much of sports fan, but I can see how this book would appeal to sporty readers. I also like that basketball books aren't exclusively boys' books as they were when I was growing up. Thanks for the review!

Awe.. Thanks, Barrie! They're my fave. :)

Me too, Ellen!! There was NOTHING. :)

I agree, Sarah! It's so nice to see more sporty books for girls.. :)

This is definitely the month for Holmes - There's Sherry Holmes Baldwin, Holmes for the Holidays, your Holmes, and, well, me, of course. With a name like that, it has to be good! :)

That looks like a fun book. I was a b'baller but we went from first place our freshman year to almost last place our senior year. We got a new coach our sr year who played everyone the same amount of time. ARGH!
On a fun note, my son just joined basketball for the first time. I kind of pushed him into it, but last night he thanked me for making him join. He's having a blast! (I knew he would!)

This is a compelling review, but I especially enjoy your nifty disclosure. Nice voice. (So far I've punted on creating one and just disclose as necessary within the appropriate posts.)

Awe, enjoy, Kelly!! You should post pics of your b-ball days. :)

Awe, Alyssa! :) You can be a sporty girl. Everyone has a little sporty spunk in them. :)

Enjoy, Adrienne!! :) Little ones playing are sooo cute. :)

:), Carrie!! I'll be begging you in a bit to read my ms.. :)

Thanks, Kelly!

:), Sarahlynn.. :) This disclosure thing makes me nervous.

Let me know what you think. :) If you ever need sporty book recommendations, I have a ton. :)

I'm not a sports fan, but it sounds like a good book for teens. Thanks for dropping by to comment on my review of The Lost Symbol.
