YAY FOR YA SUMMER GIVEAWAY

I love summer. In fact, it's my absolute favorite season. Our barren, ghost resort town wakes up, the rides light up, the boardwalk fills with tourists, and the beaches are beautified. But, best of all, my extended family visits to vacation and we spend tons of fun summer time together. :) Love it.
I also love a good beach read. So this time, I'm giving away five fun, summer novels (including mine) to kick back, relax, and enjoy - fellow Jersey girl Megan McCafferty's PERFECT FIFTHS, Terri Clark's SLEEPLESS, Haily Abbott's SUMMER BOYS, Aimee Friedman's SOUTH BEACH and a super new, signed ARC of CHANGE UP.
To enter to win these five super fabulous books, I need help with a novel I'm working on. What's your fave break up song? For some reason, most of my break ups happened during the summer. Hmm... :) I'm in desperate need of some fresh new songs and ideas. Not my usual, overplayed on my IPod nineties tunes. :) If you don't have a favorite break up song, what are your summer plans?
One break up song that sticks out in my head (I'm going to date myself here, so don't laugh) is Aerosmith's WHAT IT TAKES. This song is wrapped around a summer break up memory of me hanging out the door of friend's parked car, a soccer field, a new boy, and this song blasting on the radio. :)
I'm super psyched about my summer plans because I'm traveling to softball tournaments and NPF games to promote CHANGE UP, teaching a Teen Writer's Workshop, working on some exciting projects, and hanging out at the beach with Kaci and my hubby as much as I can. :) Yay, Summer! :)
Here are the contest rules:
1. To enter to win the above mentioned books, leave a comment mentioning your fave breakup song or summer events you're looking forward to.
2. The contest ends on midnight, June 30th, 2009. The winner will be posted on July 1st, 2009. A family member or friend will pick the winner (including my dog at times).
3. The contest is open to EVERYONE. Don't be shy my writing friends.
4. If you post the contest on your blog, FACEBOOK, MySpace, or anywhere else, you automatically receive two entries. Last month's winner was a poster.

Good luck, everyone!!

What a great contest!

I can't really help you with the break up songs... I'm completely drawing a blank. But summer events I'm really looking forward to are taking my kids to the Canada Day parade and hitting the beach.

Songs:

Lady by Styx (sappy, I know)
Boys of Summer by Don Henley
Wish you Were here by Pink Floyd

That's all I can come up with on quick notice.

Summer plans? Trip to DC to visit the rents.

Ray Veen said...

It's not a break-up song, and this isn't a contest entry, but there's a certain song that's been trying to inspire a story for years: Boys of Summer by Don Henley.

Use it if you want, I'll probably never get around to it.

Kelly Polark said...

I love that Aerosmith song (and Boys of Summer)!
How fun for you, Keri, to travel to softball tourneys! The girls will love your books!!
Now to break up songs:
I Don't Love You by My Chemical Romance
Almost Easy by Avenged Sevenfold (a come back to me song)
How's It Going to Be? by Third Eye Blind
Rest in Pieces by Saliva
The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars
Can you tell I love these music questions?!

I never broke up with anyone. Met hubby, dated hubby, married hubby.

I love Forever & Always by Taylor Swift, There's More to Me Than You by Jessica Andrews, Who's Cryin Now, Reasons Why, What I Didn't Say, and Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do by Saving Jane for break-up songs. Also, for my summer plans, I will mostly be hanging out, swimming, reading, and playing with my niece.

Hi, Big Plain V! I think about that song every time it's on the radio too. What a great concept for a book. :) A man eater. :)

Wow, Thanks, Kelly!! You know your music. :)

Hey, Coll!! Make sure you stop and see me when you're in Cape May. :)

Hi, Meredith! Thanks for the list. I love Taylor Swift. :)

Hi, Katie! Thanks.. LOL. :)

i dont really know if you'd classify it as a break up song, but stay with me bright eyes by something with numbers is a really good some when it comes to love and what not.

anyways.
summer is gone cuz im from aus but yehh beach and softball is the go in summer. :)

donnas said...

Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf. Really I cant explain why except you do get to kind of yell at the end. Its also really the only song I like by him so its not something to be overplayed.

Charity Tahmaseb said...

Someone already mentioned How's It Going to Be by Third Eye Blind. Love that song.

Other songs, off the top of my head:

Hate (I Really Don't Like You) by the Plain White T's and So What by Pink.

Beth said...

i think "how it gonna be" isnt so much a breakup song, since its just about friends...and "wish you were here" is about a band member that had mental problems. sorry, im picky like that :-), but u can assign w/e emotions u want to the songs u listen to, really.
ive never been in a break-up, but i was talking about break-up songs last night w/ my bro's gf and she mentioned avril lavigne's "when you're gone" and nickelback's "faraway". i think. and she's a pretty typical teen girl, in my opinion, so if it's for one of those type of novels that ur writing, keri, i would say those are pretty good recommendations...
my summer plans consist of working, volunteering at the hospital, getting up early every morning to go swimming w/ the school swim team, and annual events that u can always count on... not too fun, but itll pass the time.

Kaitlyn said...

Okay, my ALL TIME favorite break-up song (if it counts as one) must be...
Forever And Always by Taylor Swift.
Oh, and for the summer,
I'll be home reading books.
And walking my dog. :]
Sounds like heaven, am I right?!

I'm pretty sure i have a lot of favorite break up songs but the two that first come to mind are Over You by Daughtry and Picture to Burn by Taylor Swift.

When my friends and I were in college, and one of us would have a bad day, a bad date, or a relationship gone bad... there was only one cure:

TRIP TO THE DINER!!!

These trips were accompanied with greasy food, chocolate-y shakes and pies, and my very favorite, only 2 songs that could sum it all up -

"Since You've Been Gone" - Kelly Clarkson
&
"Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)" - Green Day

That's it. That's all we played, all night long, screamed along to on the ride there and back to our dorm, etc. To this day, these are my basic breakup anthems, because once you've screamed "I'M SO MOVING OOOOON, YEAH YEAH!" about three or four times in 5 minutes, there's nothing that can get you down! =D

Oh, fun! Okay, when I went through a bad breakup there were four songs that really helped. Note, this was years ago, when I was listening to a lot of country music - mostly because it fit my heart-done-been-broke mood. Hold on while I turn down my music; I never can think of other songs while something else is playing!

"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor (of course!)

"Bye Bye (Baby)" by Jodi Messina

"Everybody Knows" by Trisha Yearwood

"She's Gonna Make It" by Garth Brooks

Hmmm...I've never had a break up song for myself, but if I did, I'd imagine it would be something loud and angry, like Bloc Party or Sugarcult. Personally, I also like Pink's new song, So What, as a break-up song.

I Want to Know What Love Is- Foreigner

I Miss You- Klymaxx

Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)- Phil Collins

Didn't We Almost Have It All - Whitney Houston

Hard to Say I'm Sorry - Chicago

Heartache Tonite - Eagles

Hold On To The Night & Endless Summer Nights - Richard Marx

Breakup songs. . .that's hard.
I mostly just listen to viking metal like Amon Amarth when I'm going through a breakup, and I'm guessing that's not what you're looking for.
Yknow, I guess I'd have to say that my favorite breakup song is actually about breaking up:
If I HAD to pick, though, I guess I have two favorite breakup songs, both by the Unlovables and one actually about breakups.
The Unlovables - Feelin' All Emo (Since I Broke Up With You)
The Unlovables - Disaster

It's Adele's song "First Love". It's really short and simple, but beautiful.
