Movie Mania

Have you watched any fantastic flicks lately? After endless channel surfing to no avail, my hubby and I rented some DVD's over the weekend.
1. Atonement - I wanted to poke my eyeballs out during the beginning, but the ending was worth sticking it out. Great film.

2. Never Back Down - Vision Quest is one of my all-time favorite movies, so Never Back Down was met with high expectations. I assumed it would be like Vision Quest but more MMA instead of wrestling. Since I always enjoy a sporty movie, this was no exception. However, I could kind of predict what was going to happen throughout the film. And the main character looked exactly like a young Top Gun Tom Cruise, which was freaking me out in a good way.  :)
3. Juno - I absolutely love this film. The acting was fantastic. The writing was amazing. Juno is one of my all time fave movies.

What did you think of Atonement, Never Back Down, Juno, or any movie you've watched recently?  Is there anything you want to rent or see in the theatre?

I liked Juno. Haven't seen the other two.

I'm still want to see Mummy 3 despite it's negative reviews.

Have a good Thursday.

Haven't seen any of them (though have seen Vision Quest). Honestly, I don't watch many movies any more, and when I do, I tend to be a couple years behind everyone else, lol...

Still haven't seen JUNO. Maybe once summer is over and things calm down, because I'm hearing such good stuff about it. HOWEVER, I'm also hearing it's been nominated for awards and stuff and that's usually a killer for me because it usually means the story doesn't end well, and I like it when my escapism ends WELL, you know?

We just saw JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (Brendan Fraser? YUM), and it was very fun. Inspired me to go buy the book and read it with my kids. Has gone on the DVDs to Buy list.

Want to see Mummy 3. Dark Knight. Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2.

I haven't seen any of the above!
But I did see Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D which I loved!
And I used to love Vision Quest. It's mentioned in so many writing books as a good study of craft.

LOVED Juno-- Haven't seen Atonement but I want to since I read the book . . .I'm a little behind on my movie watching!

Juno rules. Woo hoo for 80's movies. I'm trying to get the library staff to dress up as the entire cast of "The Goonies" for Halloween.

Out of that list, i've only seen Juno, but I really did love that movie. I loved the people they picked and the writing/story was sweet, emotional, and hilarious!!!! definitely becoming a favorite of mine now as well.

recently...in theatrs, i saw Swing Vote (review on my blog here if you want to read that!!!) but i will say that i enjoyed it a lot.

and i saw Sisterhood 2 which was a great friend film...made me sad at parts though b/c a friend of mine is going away for college soon, and the movie deals with that.

My family and I just saw Wall-E a few weeks ago. I loved it. We got there an hour before to get good seats. There were people in the row in front of us with a laptop and a PSP. Does that seem wierd to you, too?

I also really want to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. I loved those books and the first movie, so I just cannot wait for this one!

I saw Juno...a good story, but I think my students hyped it up too much for me to really like it. Love the opening and the note Juno writes at the end... :)

Hi, Dru! Yes, Juno is great. :)

Hi, Marianne! Me too.. This was the first batch of movies I've watched in probably over a year. But, every time I watch movies, I want to watch more.

Hi, Amy! I know what you mean about awards. Yes, Sister of the Traveling Pants 2. A definite.

Hi, PJ! You have good taste. :) Really? I just recently ordered the book. Never knew it was a book first. :)

Hi, Alyson! Me too.. Let me know what you think of Atonement. :)

Hi, Justin! I'd love to see that! :)

Hi, Lauren! Two movies I'd like to see - Swing Vote and SOTTP 2.

Hi, Melissa! Thanks. :)

Hi, Virginia! I agree. :)

Hi, Meredith! That is weird. Unless they were on a writer's deadline. I might have to tote my laptop to a wedding. :) JK.

Hi, Beth! I heard there was a ton of teen controversy regarding the film. But, I couldn't figure out how it made teen pregnancy glamorous like some of the critics say.

Sheri Perl-Oshins said...

I loved Juno too. It was the screenwriters first attempt to write a screenplay ever. She was a stripper before...

Now they are attributing all the recent teenage pregnancies to the attitude toward teen pregnancy in that movie. Silly, in my opinion. I enjoyed it. Thought it was fresh.

I just rented Atonement too. Not sure how I felt about the outcome, but I like the beginning and then I thought it got a little long and then became interesting. I imagine a much better book than movie.

Tonight, my family and I just saw Journey to the Center of the Earth. Now this film did not get it's fair share of acclaim. It was fantastic! And so much fun - like a roller coaster ride!

The beginning of Atonement was my favorite part! When they were just chilling in the yard and such. Juno is fantastic!

Atonement broke my heart, but it was a great film. Haven't seen the others you mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing Inkheart and The City of Ember when they hit theaters. Loved the books and I hope the movies do them justice.

We saw Journey to the Center of the Earth and LOVED it. We didn't get to see the 3D version, but it was great anyway.

I haven't seen the other two, but I really enjoyed Juno when I saw it. I had heard so much about it that I was expected to be disappointed, but I wasn't. I rarely watch movies in the summers, though. I'll catch up when it's cold again.

Hi, Sheri! Journey to the Center of the Earth sounds good. :) Wow, I remember hearing that story about the screenwriter. I'm going to have to check it out.. Interesting. I love stories like that.

Hi, Alea! I think I found out why I wanted to poke my eyeballs out - the DVD skipped. I thought the movie was supposed to show the same scene over and over. Yikes.. :)

Hi, Rebecca! Me too. :)

Hi, Caryn! I know. Now that the Olympics are on, I take a break from late night movies.

Keri- Oh my goodness! That's crazy. I watched a dvd once that for some reason decided to start in the middle so I was utterly confused. I didn't realize until the end when the movie turned out much shorter than it was supposed to be. I had to go back and watch all the missing scenes to fill it all in. That was crazy!

I think I caused many of my friends pain forcing them to watch the Atonement with me. But I love that movie. It's a amazing book. The beginning is kind of stab the eye out worthy but the end half makes everything twice as better.

Juno gets annoying after watching it 10 million times because it's the only movie Lauren ever picks out. But it was good the first time.

Keri Mikulski said...

Hi, Kaitlyn! I'm sure your friends loved it. Yes, the end is amazing and heartbreaking. See you on Wednesday! :) How was BREAKING DAWN?

Kaitlyn said...

Breaking Dawn was amazing. Worth the wait I guess. I have started re reading it already. o.O I have an addiction.

Atonement turned out to be one of my favorite movies ever. But I don't think anyone will ever watch it with me again after the first 20 mins.

Yesterday, I was at a hotel and my sister and I rented Juno from them. But unfortunately we couldn't watch the whole thing. I need to watch it soon, I LOVED what I saw so far.
