First Author Visit - Yikes!!
Tomorrow is my first 'official' middle school author visit.. Now, you would think that after teaching middle school for a bizillion years, I would be okay with it.. Nope, I'm really sweating about tomorrow.
Anyone else out there do author visits? What do you do? What grades do you visit?
I've visited at both middle school and grade school...more from the writing perspective than I have a book appropriate for kids that age. It's not bad. The kids were interested and asked good questions. Let us know how it goes.
I have yet to participate in an author visit to a school. Well, unless you can't a reading program where I stopped by to read a children's story. Good luck!
Haven't been in your shoes yet, but I imagine I'd go with the over-prepared strategy, too. :D That, and trying to remember that kids love author visits (even if only because it gets them out of math). Good luck! I hope it's loads of fun.
Keri Mikulski is the author of HEAD GAMES (Razorbill/Penguin, January 6th, 2011), Pretty Tough Books 4-6 (Penguin/Razorbill, 2011-2012), SCREWBALL (The National Writing for Children Center’s 2008 Summer Young Adult Pick), and its sequel, CHANGE UP (a 2009 Cybil Nominee). Oooh, I'd be nervous too, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Being overly prepared is always my favorite method for keeping calm. :)
You'll do great :) let us know how it goes!

I've never done one, but good luck! Please give us a recap.
Thanks Shari and Kwana! I'm all prepared ready to go.. Have a great weekend!!

I think in a lot of ways talking to kids is even harder than an adult audience. Um, not to make you MORE nervous or anything. *sheepish smile*
